The National Archives describes its UFO fund (BR DFANBSB ARX): 743 records produced by the Air Force command, from 1952 to 2016, searchable in the SIAN catalogue.

Interviews and witness statements: who, in what role, when and where it was said.
Petit, who co-conducted the August 1997 interview in Cabo Frio, describes it and Hollanda's only public lecture on 7 September 1997, in which Hollanda said his team saw structured craft. A witness account, not a finding.

Reports the release of an 86-page confidential SNI report on the operation, quoting its night logs from October and November 1977. The report does not explain the lights and notes the team's lack of consensus.
“Não há um consenso entre os membros da equipe sobre o que foi visto, mas parece que essa atitude está intimamente relacionada com o receio de cair no ridículo perante os colegas” source

Long account of the operation: the first reports, the team, the medical officer's verdict, the suspension on 5 December 1977, Hollanda's 1997 interview, and the Air Force's statement that all material is in the National Archives.

Updated 7 July 2021. Several claims in the article come from ufologists and are attributed to them.
The Air Force's press centre says the files on the operation have already been sent to the National Archives, where 300 pages and 150 photographs are held.
Our own reading of the file, written from the sources on the other sheets. Opinion is marked as such.
What is documented: the Brazilian Air Force took villagers' reports seriously enough to send a team, the SNI took part, and their logs are now public through the Arquivo Nacional. The logs are plain. Times, places, a light over the water, ‘nothing to report’. They describe what was seen and do not say what it was.
What is not documented is most of the famous story. The large craft at close range, the hundreds of photographs and the sixteen hours of film come from Hollanda's interviews in 1997, twenty years later. The released records hold some photographs of lights; the films have not appeared. The team's own medical officer wrote collective hysteria, and the SNI summary says the team did not agree on what it had seen.
Our label is Unexplained because an official body investigated and the records reach no conclusion. It would move to Explained if a final COMAR 1 report or the missing material identified the lights, and it says nothing either way about the injuries villagers reported.
The case for an ordinary explanation is strong. The Air Force's own medical officer, after hearing witnesses in October 1977, wrote ‘collective hysteria’. The region was in a panic: villagers lit fires, banged cans and set off fireworks at night, and the press covered it closely. In that climate every bright light becomes a sighting. The released logs show lights at a distance, often ‘nothing observed’, and nothing that rules out stars, boats, aircraft or natural phenomena. ‘Unexplained’ may only mean ‘never properly checked’.

The archive's own guide to its UFO holdings. Says the team led by Hollanda investigated at least 130 cases in 1977–78, that some photographs are in a digitised report, and that the films he described have not been released.
“Segundo relato de Uirangê Hollanda, os oficiais teriam feito também filmagens, mas estas até o momento não foram disponibilizadas pela FAB.” source
